The Office of Health Standards Compliance pays tribute to all nurses

The Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) pays tribute to all nurses across the world in commemorating International Nurses Day, under the theme: “Our Nurses, Our Future” as set by the International Council of Nurses (ICN).

The day is celebrated every year on 12 May to mark the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday, the founder of modern-day nursing. International Nurses Day comes at a time when the government embarked on a fundamental process of transforming the health system through the introduction of the National Health Insurance (NHI), which is aimed to ensure all citizens have access to safe and quality essential health services.

Nurses have always been in the forefront and the backbone of the transformation of healthcare system by serving patients and spending time with patients.

As we commemorate this day, the OHSC immensely acknowledges the vital role nurses have always played by providing the necessary, life-saving essential services to those in need. This day is a reminder of the crucial role and contributions nurses play in our society.

The OHSC as a regulator of health services, wishes to extend its gratitude to all nurses during International Nurses Day for working tirelessly and ensuring the safety of users of health services in South Africa.

Issued by the Office of Health Standards Compliance.
