The Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) pays a special tribute to all nurses during the International Nurses Day.
This day comes at a time when the country and the world grapples with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency. Nurses have always been at the forefront of fighting epidemics, pandemics by providing necessary, life-saving essential services to those in need. The COVID-19 pandemic is a reminder of the vital role and contributions nurses play in our society.
The OHSC wishes to acknowledge efforts by all nurses during the International Nurses Day for working tirelessly and ensuring the safety of users of health services, both in the public and private health establishments in South Africa.
We extend our gratitude to all nurses for sacrificing their time and efforts, working hard across the National Health System to manage the spread of COVID-19.
On this day, the OHSC remembers and is saddened by the passing of those nurses who paid the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in the fight against COVID-19.
We further call upon a safe work environment for all nurses through the provision of adequate personal protective equipment and the necessary support needed at the workplace.
